How is Radha Ashtami Celebrated in Barsana?

Radha Ashtami is also one of the most vibrant and spiritual festivals that are being celebrated in Barsana, the native village of Shri Radha Rani. On this sacred day, thousands of devotees from across India visit the Radha Rani Temple to celebrate the sacred festival. Radha Ashtami 2025 will be celebrated on August 31 with great devotion, not just in barsana but even in Mathura and Vrindavan.

The day starts with Mangala Aarti and special abhishek of Radha Rani’s idol using milk, curd, honey and flowers. The temple will be decorated with flowers and lights and devotional songs will be played throughout the village the whole day. A grand procession known as “Radha Rani ki Sawari” is held where Radha Rani is placed in a beautifully decorated palanquin and carried through the streets of Barsana amidst dancing, singing and the sound of dhols and conch shells.

Devotees follow fasts, recite Radha Krishna mantras and perform Raslila dances depicting the divine love of Radha Krishna. Local women dress up in gopi clothes and perform Vrindavan Leelas scenes.

How to Plan a Mathura Vrindavan Trip from Ahmedabad?

When you are planning your trip to Mathura and Vrindavan from Ahmedabad make sure you have a proper itinerary so that your journey is smooth. Reaching Mathura early will help you avoid the temple rush and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the temples during morning aartis. It’s better to visit during Janmashtami or Holi as the devotion during these days is extraordinary. But be prepared for more crowds.

In terms of planning, spend your morning in Mathura Vrindavan Temples, start with Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple where Lord Krishna was born. Then visit Vishram Ghat and Dwarkadhish Temple. In the afternoon go to Vrindavan where the devotion gets intense with evening aartis and bhajans. Book your accommodations near the temples so that you can easily access them for morning and night activities.

Why did Bhishma Ashtami take a vow of celibacy?

Bhishma had the boon of Ichha Mrityu, meaning he could choose the time of his death. When he was struck down by Arjuna’s arrows, he lay on a bed of arrows, waiting for the right moment to leave his body. According to Hindu tradition, departing during Uttarayana is considered highly auspicious. It is believed that souls attaining liberation in this period reach higher spiritual realms. How I Celebrated Janmashtami in Vrindavan – My Real Experience

I’ve celebrated Janmashtami many times at home, but experiencing it in Vrindavan—the very land where Lord Krishna spent his childhood—was something completely different. Last year, I decided to be in Vrindavan on this sacred day. And honestly, it was one of the most spiritual and emotional experiences of my life.

I reached Vrindavan a day before Janmashtami to avoid the heavy rush. Even from a distance, the vibe of the town was magical. The streets were lit up, colorful flowers hung over lanes, and you could hear “Radhe Radhe” from every corner. People weren’t just preparing for a festival—they were preparing to welcome Krishna himself. You could feel that energy.

Locals, saints, tourists, and Krishna devotees from all over India and even from abroad had started gathering. I checked into a small guest house close to the Banke Bihari temple, and even the owner had a big smile, saying, “You’re lucky to be here during Janmashtami.”

In Which Month There is no Crowd in Vrindavan?

The best months to visit Vrindavan with less crowds are July and August during the monsoon season. Another perfect time is early December or January excluding the festive days. The winter chill keeps away the casual tourists and the atmosphere is calm and perfect to explore the famous temples like Banke Bihari Temple, ISKCON Temple and Prem Mandir. Better avoid visiting during fetsivals likeHoli, Janmashtami and Radha Ashtami due to a lot of crowd. For a hassle-free experience, choose weekdays instead of weekends.
