How is Radha Ashtami Celebrated in Barsana?
Radha Ashtami is also one of the most vibrant and spiritual festivals that are being celebrated in Barsana, the native village of Shri Radha Rani. On this sacred day, thousands of devotees from across India visit the Radha Rani Temple to celebrate the sacred festival. Radha Ashtami 2025 will be celebrated on August 31 with great devotion, not just in barsana but even in Mathura and Vrindavan.
The day starts with Mangala Aarti and special abhishek of Radha Rani’s idol using milk, curd, honey and flowers. The temple will be decorated with flowers and lights and devotional songs will be played throughout the village the whole day. A grand procession known as “Radha Rani ki Sawari” is held where Radha Rani is placed in a beautifully decorated palanquin and carried through the streets of Barsana amidst dancing, singing and the sound of dhols and conch shells.
Devotees follow fasts, recite Radha Krishna mantras and perform Raslila dances depicting the divine love of Radha Krishna. Local women dress up in gopi clothes and perform Vrindavan Leelas scenes.
