How Accurate is Google Translate?

"Mostly, Google Translate is very accurate. Since its inception in 2006, it has become one of the top-rated machine translation (MT) tools, currently supporting 133 languages, having added 24 in 2022 Accuracy varies depending on language pair and content type, though some reports show Google Translate reaching 94% accuracy.
Google’s 2016 shift to Neural Machine Translation (NMT) represented a turning point for output quality. The tech giant suggests GNMT reduced translation errors by over 60% for several major language pairs. It also eliminated the need to translate via English as an intermediary with “zero-shot translation”.

What Venture Capital Firms Look For When Investing in Language AI

"AI may have gotten top billing for SlatorCon London 2025’s Investor Panel, but investors Ignacio Monereo and Simone Cremonini stated up-front that when it comes to committing funds, they place great importance on the people behind the tech.
Prior to his current role, as Partner at USD 40m firm Boost Capital Partners, Monereo worked eight years at Google, where he met members of the team that would eventually found Madrid-based AI dubbing platform — and Boost Capital rising star — DubMe.io. Investing in a company at the pre-seed or Seed A round, he said, means betting on the team.

Europe’s Large Multilingual Vision-Language Models Hit the Stage

"On June 10, 2025, Andre Martins, Head of Research at Language Solutions Integrator Unbabel, announced the release of a preview version of two large multilingual vision-language models (VLMs), EuroVLM-1.7B and EuroVLM-9B, developed in collaboration with Instituto Superior Técnico at the University of Lisbon.
The models support 35 languages, including all 24 official EU languages, along with Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, Galician, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Russian, Turkish, and Ukrainian.
Built on EuroLLM — a multilingual text-only model — the new VLMs combine strong multilingual language understanding with vision encoding. This enables them to process images alongside text and perform a range of multilingual vision-language tasks, such as:

Google Flips Stance on Automatic AI Translations, Requires Content Creators to Opt Out

"There is a reason that “Google Translate” has become shorthand, outside the language industry, for translation technology: Its relatively early appearance online, coupled with Google’s ubiquity, has made it an identifiable standard.
Now, Google has integrated its automated, AI-powered translation into its search engine and results pages — potentially to the detriment of content creators.
SEO specialist website Ahrefs published, in early June 2025, an article on the potential fallout from Google’s efforts to automatically translate English-language webpages into other languages following Google’s March 2025 Core.

CEO of AI Dubber Papercup Says Much of the Team is Moving to Scale AI

"AI dubbing company Papercup co-founder and CEO, Jesse Shemen, announced via a post on LinkedIn dated May 15, 2025, that “a large portion of the Papercup team is joining Scale AI, a company I’ve long admired for shaping the future of AI across both public and enterprise sectors.”
While both Shemen and AI data annotation giant Scale AI are seemingly keeping details of their merger under wraps, Shemen also said in his post that “It is a bittersweet moment. Will YouTube Succeed with AI Translated Dubbing?

"If anyone had heard in the 2010s the prediction that YouTube VP, Amjad Hanif, is quoted as saying in a Bloomberg article about AI dubbing, skepticism would have likely reigned on social media: in five years, “every video uploaded to YouTube could be dubbed automatically into every spoken language.”
In 2025, this is more plausible, so no great skepticism, no millions of exploding-head emojis. Well, perhaps not every spoken language. But at the dizzying rate language AI is advancing (just look at what HeyGen’s Avatar or ElevenLabs’ Actor Mode can do), AI dubbing is set to improve and dominate over human dubbing a lot sooner than 2030.

Denmark Says Post-Editing Is Not Translation

"A passage taken from a statement (in Danish) published in April 2025 by the Danish Translators’ Association and the Danish Authors’ Society says that “some people have wrongly received public lending money for books where they were listed as translators. In these instances, no real translation work was done; instead, they only edited text that was already translated by a machine.”
According to the European Council of Literary Translators Associations (CEATL), the two associations, along with the Danish Publishers Association, have reached an industry-wide agreement regarding crediting practices for translators and AI translation post-editors.
