Arteta's 'game-changer' rejected, will he leave the club after all? "PL multiple clubs in official contact"

Reece Nelson is attracting interest from several Premier League (PL) clubs.

"Nottingham Forest and West Ham have made official contact with Arsenal over the signing of Nelson," TeamTalk reported on Wednesday (Jan. 21).

Nelson has been with Arsenal's youth system since 2009. After his first-team call-up, he continued to wear the Gunners' colors, with the exception of two seasons on loan. He is known for his quick dribbling and concise passing.

Despite being highly touted, he didn't get many opportunities at Arsenal. He was mostly a substitute and not a starter. In the 2021-22 season, he went on loan to Feyenoord, where he played 21 games but only scored two goals and provided two assists.

After returning to the club, he remained mainly on the bench, but one of the 'best moments' of his career came. In the 2022-23 season, he scored a dramatic late stoppage-time winner against Bournemouth to give his team the win. The goal earned Nelson the 'Game Changer of the Season' award. He was quickly recognized by manager Mikel Arteta and was set to receive increased playing time.

However, his position remained the same. Of his 15 league appearances this season, he has started just once. The rest have all come as substitutes. His minutes per game have also dropped from 18.5 to 17.1 compared to last season.

He is looking for a move and several teams are keeping an eye on him. "Crystal Palace are targeting Nelson as a replacement for Michael Oliseh," according to Cut Offside in England. And TeamTalk reports that Nottingham and West Ham have officially approached Arsenal.

Nottingham finished 17th this season, avoiding relegation. The club are looking to do better and are rebuilding after sacking manager Steve Cooper. West Ham are preparing for the new season after the appointment of Julen Lopetegui. With Lucas Paqueta potentially facing disciplinary action for 'betting allegations' and Mohamed Kheddous attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, the Hammers could be facing a departure in the attacking ranks. Both clubs are looking to strengthen their squads with the signing of Nelson.
