Drought-Driven Spread of Valley Fever Threatens Californians: Study

A recent study published in The Lancet Regional Health – Americas has revealed that climate change-induced drought conditions are exacerbating the spread of Valley fever, a potentially severe and sometimes deadly flu-like disease, across California.

Known scientifically as coccidioidomycosis, Valley fever is caused by the airborne fungus coccidioides, which thrives in soil and becomes airborne when disturbed.
