The polymerization process of methyl methacrylate yields polymethyl methacrylate, a synthetic resin. Usually used as a shatterproof substitute for glass in windows, skylights, laminated signage, aircraft canopies, and other applications, it is a clear, hard, and transparent plastic. When impact strength, chemical and heat resistance, transparency, tensile strength, and polishing resistance are more significant than impact strength, this plastic material has shown to be a cost-effective substitute for polycarbonate.
