United Airlines offers three different methods by which passengers can get into its upgrade waitlist, including requesting an upgrade during booking, after booking through the MileagePlus account, or at the gate at the airport. Moreover, if your upgrade request isn't confirmed immediately, then the status will show as United Upgrade Requested vs Waitlist, which means you're in line for a potential upgrade based on availability, fare class, and elite status.
