Rahul Gandhi: Allahabad High Court gives deadline to the Center on Rahul Gandhi's citizenship

The Allahabad High Court has set a deadline for the central government on the citizenship issue of senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. It has suggested that the citizenship issue be resolved within four weeks. However, the Centre and the court sought 8 weeks' time, but the Lucknow bench gave four weeks and adjourned the next hearing to April 21. By then, the Centre will have to submit a status report to the court.
Controversy over citizenship for several years
The controversy over Rahul Gandhi's citizenship has been going on for several years. The court gave the latest orders on petitions filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and Karnataka BJP worker Vignesh Sishir, who claimed that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen and sought cancellation of his Indian citizenship.
