New Zealand: Government issues major earthquake warning in New Zealand

A strong earthquake has struck off the coast of Riverton, New Zealand. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported that the earthquake was registered at a magnitude of 6.8. The tremors were mainly felt at a depth of 10 kilometers off the southwest coast of the South Island. The earthquake was initially recorded at a magnitude of 7, but was later revised to 6.8.

The earthquake was so strong that people ran out of their homes in fear. Officials warned people in the affected areas to be vigilant. Residents said the ground shook violently for a few seconds after the earthquake.
