The total Delhi to Hemkund sahib by Road distance is around 520 km and you drive by some key towns in Uttarakhand, such as Rishikesh, Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Joshimath before reaching Govindghat. This is the last motorable point. From there, a 13 km trek or pony ride takes you to Ghangaria, followed by a 6 km steep trek to reach the revered Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara, located at an altitude of 4,329 meters.
To travel conveniently with your family consider hiring a tempo traveller or an SUV from Delhi. This trip can be split into two days, stopping overnight in Rishikesh or Joshimath. The perfect time to plan your visit is between June and October when the weather is pleasant and the road is open.
