NC first-rounder Hart raves about Shirakawa after win over SSG

NC Dinos' foreign first baseman Kyle Hart (32) praised opposing starter Keisho Shirakawa (23) after picking up the win against the SSG Landers.

Hart started against SSG in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Nov. 21, throwing 94 pitches over 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts.

Hart, who was replaced by Kim Jae-yeol after the top of the seventh inning with his team leading 2-1, improved to 6-2 on the season as the bullpen preserved the win.

Hart, dubbed the "second Pedi," was just as dominant on the day.

He was no-hit until he was hit by Oh Tae-gon in the fourth inning. He then gave up a leadoff single to Guillermo Heredia, but struck out Lee Ji-young to end the threat.

From the fourth inning until the top of the seventh, he didn't allow a single batter to reach base, except for a single by Ha Jae-hoon.

Hart's victory over the Hanwha Eagles on May 16 was his first in more than a month, as he hadn't won a game in over a year after pitching well but not getting the win.

"I'm confident against all teams," Hart told reporters after the game. When I studied before today's game against SSG, I thought there would be at least three left-handed batters, but I was surprised to see eight right-handed batters," he said, adding, "I talked to the battery before the game and changed my game strategy in a hurry, and it turned out to be a good result."

Hart was not dwelling on his first win in a long time, saying: "My wins are important, but I always think about the team's wins first. That's not going to change," he emphasized.

Hart himself mentioned SSG starter Shirakawa's name at the end of the interview.

Shirakawa allowed two runs on seven hits (two homers) in six and a third innings while striking out a whopping 10, but the offense struggled and he dropped to 2-2.

Shirakawa, who signed a six-week contract with SSG in the middle of last month as a temporary replacement for Loenis Elias, could be on his way out of SSG in early July after one start.

Hart was well aware of this. "I thought SSG starter Shirakawa pitched really well today," Hart said. It was impressive," he praised.

"Whether he stays with SSG or goes back to Japan, I wish him all the best wherever he goes," he said.
