'Heung-min Son' goal seals 2-1 win over Luton as Tottenham climb to fourth

Tottenham Hotspur "captain" Son Heung-min scored a come-from-behind goal to earn his team three points in the English Premier League (EPL).

Tottenham came from behind to win 2-1 against Luton Town in the 30th round of the 2023-2024 EPL at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Jan. 31 at 0:00 p.m. ET.

With the win, Spurs, who have 17 wins, five draws and seven losses (56 points), leapfrogged Aston Villa into fourth place.

The two teams have the same number of points and goal difference, but Spurs are one point ahead on goal difference.

Son Heung-min started up front in a 4-2-3-1 formation for the match. He was joined by Timo Werner, James Maddison, and Dejan Kuluczewski in the opposition goal.

It didn't go according to plan, as Spurs conceded in the third minute of the first half. A hit-and-run goal, assisted by Ross Barkley, tied the game.

Spurs struggled to find an equalizer. In the 19th minute, Son Heung-min looked to have equalized.

He beat the keeper on a counterattack and fired a right-footed shot that hit the near post and far post in quick succession.

After a quiet first half, Tottenham came out in the second half and forced an own goal.

Tottenham broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half when Isa Cabore rattled the Luton net after flicking on a low cross from the right flank by substitute Brennan Johnson.

With the score at 1-1, both teams went on the attack in search of the winner.

After a back-and-forth battle, Tottenham had the last laugh. In the 41st minute, Werner's pass from the left flank was crossed by Johnson to an onrushing Son Heung-min.

Son finished with his right foot to take the lead. Son's 15th league goal.

The goal also moved Son into sole possession of fifth place on Tottenham's all-time goalscoring list, having previously shared fifth place with Cliff Jones with 159 goals.

Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou then decided to tighten things up. In the 43rd minute of the second half, he took Son off and brought on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Postecoglou's plan worked, and the game ended with a 2-1 victory for Spurs.
