Can I have a local anaesthetic for a dental procedure if I am breast feeding?

Local anesthetics play a crucial role in modern dentistry, offering patients relief from pain and discomfort during various dental procedures. For breastfeeding mothers, concerns about the safety of these medications arise due to the potential transfer of drugs to the infant through breast milk.

Why do large amalgam (silver/grey) fillings crack teeth and is it a good idea to replace them?

Many patients have large amalgam restorations, particularly in the back of the mouth. Many have been there for many years. Amalgam was the restorative material of choice for many years because it was cheap, easy to handle and very durable. The downside of amalgam restorations is that they are metallic, so with temperature change in the mouth, they ever so slightly expand and contract.

What are dental veneers and what are they made from?

In most cases a very small amount of tooth structure must be removed to create space to accommodate the veneer material. This is usually 0.5mm or less, often contacts between teeth don’t need to be broken in order to place veneers.

What is a socket preservation after an extraction and why do I need one

When a tooth is extracted from the jaw bone an extraction socket is formed. The body will naturally heal this in about 3 months. Initially a blood clot forms, then fibrous tissue and finally solid bone. Unfortunately, the walls of the socket often collapse inwards and the volume of bone remaining is reduced.
