These four sacred sites of Chardham Yatra are dedicated to four different deities. Yamunotri temple is dedicated to goddess Yamuna located at a height of 10,616 ft. whereas Gangotri temple is dedicated to goddess Ganga located 18 km from the source of river Ganga also known as Gaumukh. While the other two Kedarnath and Badrinath temples are dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and lord Vishnu respectively.

Kedarnath is a part of twelve jyotirlingas that are spread throughout the country located at the height of 11,745ft. It is also among the highest Shiva temples in India. Last Badrinath temple, established by Adi Shankracharya in the 9th century, stands on the bank of holy Alaknanda River, the journey of Chardham Yatra starts from Yamunotri and ends at Badrinath temple which makes this temple the holiest among the other four.
