Vatican City, April 24, 2025: Thousands of devotees from around the world have flocked to Rome to pay their last respects to Pope Francis following his death. The procession, which began on Wednesday morning to lay his body in state in St. Peter's Basilica , will continue until Saturday. On this occasion, the basilica was kept open until midnight so that more devotees could pay their respects. ​Pope Francis, aged 88, died on Monday. The cause of death was a stroke, followed by a heart attack, and health problems including double pneumonia.
