Waqf Bill: Waqf Bill before Parliament today
The central government will introduce the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament today. The bill will be discussed first in the Lok Sabha and then in the Rajya Sabha. The government aims to make changes in the protection of Waqf properties, transparency and financial practices through amendments in the Waqf Bill. The discussion of this bill will also focus on sensitive issues between religious and social communities in the country.
Demand of opposition parties
Although the government has allotted 8 hours for the debate on the bill, the opposition parties are demanding 12 hours. Major parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP), MIM and DMK have expressed their concerns against the bill. These parties are arguing that some of the provisions in the bill will create opportunities for injustice in the administration of Waqf properties.
