In the early 2000s, coffee chains like Starbucks began offering Pumpkin Spice lattes and other seasonal autumn drinks every fall. The indulgent blended beverages combining espresso, milk and a pumped-up pumpkin spice syrup recipe struck a chord with customers. Soon pumpkin spice mania was in full swing, and coffee drinkers anticipated the return of their favorite fall flavor. Competitors rolled out their own pumpkin varieties, fueling pumpkin spice consumption. By the mid-2010s, sales of pumpkin-flavored coffees, syrups and creamers had grown into a multi-million dollar industry.
