Hypoglycemia Drugs: An Overview of Medications Used to Treat Low Blood Sugar

Insulin is a Hypoglycemia Drugs hormone produced naturally by the pancreas that allows glucose to enter cells where it is used for energy. For individuals with diabetes who are unable to produce sufficient insulin themselves, exogenous insulin must be administered.

Similar to sulfonylureas, meglitinides stimulate insulin secretion from the pancreas in a glucose-dependent manner. Sulfonylureas are a class of oral hypoglycemic agents that have been used for over 60 years in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
