What Indian Donors Don’t Know About 80G Tax Benefits?

Many Indian donors are not fully aware of the tax benefits they can get on their donations. So, if you're making a donation to an NGO, here is what you need to know to claim your Tax exemption on donation.

Commonly Missed Facts:
1. 80G Exempt NGOs Only
You will only be able to claim a Tax Deduction under 80G if the NGO is officially registered under section 80G. Always check before donating to the NGO for 80G exemption.

2. You Need Form 10BE
You will need to ask the NGO for Form 10BE, as you cannot claim the deduction without it. This is a new document that is required by the Income Tax Department.

3. Cash Donations Over ₹2,000 Are Not Eligible
Donations over ₹2,000 must be made by cheque, UPI or bank Transfer to qualify for 80G benefits. Cash donations above this limit cannot be claimed.

By now you have a good understanding of the rules for claiming your tax deduction, so you can better support a cause and save tax. Always donate wisely and collect the right documentation from the 80G Exempt NGO.
