Sonobuoys are deployed from aircraft or ships using pneumatic launch tubes or rockets. Once in water, a small parachute helps the sonobuoy float and stabilizes it. It then transmits the acoustic data such as sounds originating from underwater via radio signals to the airplane or ship launching it.
